how do i join?
We recommend you visit one of our planned Stick & Puck sessions first, to get a handle on how things work – once you get your AAU membership, you can play pickup games with us!
What do I need?
We recommend picking up skates and a stick as soon as possible – although we do plan on having a limited selection of loaner sticks at stick and puck sessions, especially. You can play in shoes – but you may find that wheels and toes might not get along sometimes!

PLAY HOCKEY
Hockey is the fastest sport around. With the Sea Wolves back on the Coast, interest in hockey is is on the rise. Unlike Ice Hockey, all you need for Roller Hockey is skates and a flat surface to play! We highly encourage participants to acquire a minimum of protective gear once you’re committed to regular play, especially in pickup games, but we don’t require it for adult players.

AAU Membership
We require participants in our pickup games to be AAU Members. This protects you, this protects the association, and it protects the owners of the facilities we use!

Gear Sizing is Important
Improper sizing is the #1 cause of pain or discomfort when playing any sport!
PROTECTIVE GEAR
A fully kitted player will have skates, a stick, helmet, gloves, shin guards, elbow pads, hockey girdle/padded shorts, a protective cup, and shoulder pads. You don’t need all of these – but they do come in handy! You can play in whatever you feel comfortable in.
There are NO sports stores in our local area (or on the coast, or in Hattiesburg!) that currently carry hockey equipment. Your best option, alas, is ordering from online retailers. The link below will take you to a list of retailers that we’ve had good experiences with. In the meantime, encourage our local retailers to start carrying hockey gear!

SKATE INFO
Picking a good pair of skates is important. Most retailers offer a very reasonable return program. If the skates just don’t fit, return them, and try again. While it’s fine to start with your regular “fitness” style, or recreational skates, at first, we highly recommend that you switch to hockey skates as soon as you can. Recreational skates, while they often have plastic shells, are not designed to take the sort of side impacts that hockey involves. Aggressive skates are a bit better, as they are built a little more sturdily in general, but their reinforcements are in different areas. Hockey skates are built to protect you!
Many modern skates can be “baked” to fit – and are meant to be baked! The link below will tell how that works.
SKATE FIT
Skates are the most important piece of gear. Don’t skimp, and aim for fit and quality above all else!
