Come Play With Us!
When first starting, we recommend that you attend a STICK & PUCK session. A Stick & Puck session is a free-skate session with gear, skates and stick, including shots on goal. It’s an opportunity for you to get used to new skates, new sticks or gear; to familiarize yourself with the environment, to practice skills or learn new ones.
During this time, you are encouraged to ask questions of experienced skaters, and to practice skating and stick-handling – either working together or alone, as you choose.
Next up are our PICKUP GAMES! We plan to play twice a weekend, on Saturday mornings from 10-12, just after Stick & Puck, and on Sunday afternoons from 3-5.
Additionally, we have an open invitation from HATTIESBURG HOCKEY, who play at Roll-Around Fun Center in Petal, MS on Wednesday and Sunday nights! Games there are 6$ per person – I recommend that you bring your own skates to those sessions. Some players there bring extra sticks, so if you just want to try it out, you’re welcome to show up!
Hattiesburg Hockey also has a Facebook page that you’re welcome to check out. Times and availability for their games are all posted there.
PICKUP GAMES
For PICKUP GAMES, we require you to be an active AAU member, for insurance and liability purposes. As with many sports, inline hockey has risks inherent to the sport, and this protects you as well as us!
Our games are played 5v5, with 4 players and a goalie on each team. Player attendance may vary, as may team composition.
We currently play in various area parking lots, not on a purpose-built roller hockey surface, so we recommend that you bring adequate protective equipment.
The Amateur Athletic Union
The AAU is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, multi-sport event organizations in the world, dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs.
Inline Hockey
Inline hockey is a variant of hockey played on a hard, smooth surface, with players using inline skates to move and hockey sticks to shoot a plastic ball into their opponent’s goal to score points. The sport is a very fast-paced and free-flowing game and is considered a contact sport, but body checking is prohibited. There are five players including the goalkeeper from each team on the playing surface at a time, while teams can consist of up to 22 players apiece, who substitute into the game in “shifts”.
Gear
While we do allow players to participate without skates, we recommend that players invest in protective equipment, to avoid injuries.
#SetInStone
Stone Hockey is a local organization! We just want to provide a fun recreational sports option for Stone County residents!
